1 Flooring

Example of measuring floors

The first step is finding out how much flooring you’ll need. All it takes is a little bit of measuring. Don’t worry, we won’t make you do any math.

2 Underlayment

Underlayment is a thin foam pad that helps with noise reduction and is laid on the subfloor before installing laminate or locking engineered hardwood.

Underlayment is recommended for all floating floors. It is required for laminate without pad attached. If pad is attached, it is not required (depending on where you are installing the floor) but could be used to enhance protection. Always read the floor’s warranty and the underlayment packaging for details.

3 Moldings and Trim

For a professional finish, you’ll need flooring moldings and trim to complete your Pergo project. Used to cover extension spaces and edges left after installing your floors, these materials will enhance any room’s beauty.

Three Finish Moldings Options

Finish moldings usually come in three different profiles — Wall Base, Quarter Round, and Stair Nose — all distinctly unique.

  1. Wall Base Wall Base

    Wall Base Molding:
Wall base molding is flat surfaced and installed at the base of a wall to cover the expansion space between the floor and the wall.

  2. Quarter Round Quarter Round

    Quarter Round Molding:
Quarter round moldings, ¼ of a round dowel, are used to eliminate the expansion space between baseboards and flooring and to fill corners.

  3. Stair Nose Stair Nose

    Stair Nose Molding:
Stair nose molding is used (you guessed it!) on the nose of each stair. It covers the exposed edge of the step with a rounded piece of wood.

Two Transition Moldings Options

Transition molding is offered in two styles — 4-in-1 and Individual Transition Stick — and both are used to cover expansion spaces in a doorway/hallway to ensure a smooth surface level between different floor styles. Use our simple calculator to find out how much you need.

  1. 4-in-1 4-in-1

    4-in-1 Molding:
This molding kit includes the pieces to create a t-molding, hard surface reducer, end molding or carpet transition. Works for floors 7mm to 15mm in total height.

  2. Carpet Reducer Carpet Reducer

    Individual Transition Stick Molding:
These are used for hardwood only. Perfect for single doorways.
